This is the period in n which a foetus develop inside the womb .
Gestational period
This is the period taken by the foetus to develop into a baby
The gestational period is usually between 0 to 40 weeks but anytime from 37 weeks is considered full gestational period .
Babies born before 37 weeks are considered premature babies .
The gestational period is divided into three tremester
1st tremester ( 0 - 12 weeks)
2nd tremester ( 13 - 24 weeks )
3rd tremester (25 - 40 weeks )
How to tell you are pregnant
Missed period
Lower abdominal pain and in joints
Morning sickness. May be nausea or actual vomiting from as early as 6weeks to about 14 weeks .
Constipation
Food cravings
Heartburn and indigestion
Frequent urination
Back pain
Fatigue
Vaginal thrush
Skin change and itching and possibly skin tags
Haemorrhoids
Leg cramp
Leg twitching at night
Varicose veins
Swelling in the ankle feet and hands
Dizziness and fainting
Enlargement of breasts
You must not necessarily experience all these . Some experience one or two others just one .
Changes that occur in pregnancy according to each tremester
1st Tremester (0 - 12 weeks)
Fatigue
Nausea
Gaining between 1 to 2 KGS. This is from the growing weight if the placenta , breast , uterus and the extra blood .
Heartbeat and breathing rate become faster .
Breasts become tender ,larger and heavier.
Frequent urination.
Mood swings .
2. 2nd Tremester (13 - 24 weeks)
Less fatigue compared to 1st tremester.
Loss of concentration and focus at work and at home .
Gaining about 6 KGS.
Hair tends to become thicker .
Finger nails either become stronger or softer and easily break .
Craving some foods such as sweet spicy and fatty foods .
Not liking the taste or smell of some foods
3. 3rd Tremester ( 25 - 40 weeks)
Forgetfulness continues .
Tired and uncomfortable
The discomfort might be a nuisance
Worrying about labour as it approaches
Gaining about 5 KGS. That is from the growing baby , amniotic fluid, placenta, breasts,blood and uterus .
Back pain
Difficulty in breathing
Difficulty in sleeping
Tightening of the uterine muscles also know as Braxton Hicks contractions. Which are not an indication of labour.
